NH’s Old Man of the Mountain to be repaired–with glass?

No.

No.

Princeton, NJ architect Francis D. Treves believes he has the fix for the crumbling Old Man of the Mountain landmark in New Hampshire–reconstruct it using 250 glass panels.  So your idea to fix a granite rock formation that can’t stand up to the elements is to reconstruct it using a more fragile material.  Reallllllly.

Yoga for Hikers

Yoga for Hikers

There are many hiking specific workout resources out there, but check out Yoga for Hikers and Backpackers on HealthNewsDigest.com for an interesting change of pace.  The Upside Down Pigeon position has piqued my curiosity, so I pledge to get a pic of myself in said position on my next hike.  Note to self: Wear underwear this time, so as not to scare readers away).

It’s like Woot for hikers

Woot for Hikers?

If you’re not familiar with Woot.com, it’s a site that offers 1 deal on 1 item at a time, usually at a large discount and available until the limited supply runs out. It’s viral, addictive and generally awesome. Today I was searching for backpacking gear deals and stumbled upon SteepandCheap, which can best be described as “Woot for hikers.” One piece of gear at a time, one great discount, limited inventory and one helluva cool idea. It’s worth checking out if you’re looking for deals on hiking or backpacking gear.

Lost hiker found after 6 days in Big Sur wilderness

Stephen Cunniff, a Cambia, CA resident, apparently lost his way near dark and spent the next 6 days trying to find his way to a road.  Luckily, he found CA route 1 and called his family to pick him up.  Makes me want to watch some DVR’d Survivorman episodes just in case.  Full story at TheCalifornian

You’ve never visited the Four Corners. I guarantee it.

Oops

The Denver Post reports the famous monument at the Four Corners (where Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico meet) is actually 2.5 MILES from where the boundaries actually cross.  I have a friend who’s claimed to have urinated simultaneously in all four states, which leads me to believe he either has one heck of a strong lower bladder region, or he was simply peeing on a random spot in Southeastern Utah.  Either way, it’s still a funny story.
