I like the idea of putting the ramen and mashed potatoes together, will have to try that one trip. I've used them before with other items like chicken and vegetables for a one pot meal, but not with just ramen.

I like what I've been reading here! Keep up the good posts.

Yeah, but you have to admit the "ultralight calorie-stuffing instant backpacking meal" training was a little lacking :)

Thanks for the comment, Ben! I've yet to get on the couscous wagon, but I've heard great things. Very good point about the benefit of it being a wheat product to add some nutritional diversity.

I'm glad you found the site! I know it takes time to build a readership community, but it is always nice to know I have readers other than "google bot" or "yahoo spider."

Take care,

This sounds good; we've used potato flakes as a base before and were all healthy and happy afterwards.

My new/old favorite is couscous. New that my friends now like it; old that I still like it. It cooks basically the same as the potato flakes but has the additional whatever benefit of being wheat instead of potato.

I found this site on reddit.com/r/CampingAndBackpacking and wanted to contribute. I think it's great :)
